About Veramyst

Veramyst is used for the treatment of allergic and nonallergic nasal symptoms such as congestion, itching, sneezing and possibly a runny nose. Veramyst works by reducing the inflammatory reactions in your nasal airway from irritants or allergens in the air.

Your Prescribing Doctor Must Know

Tell your physician if you have experienced any of these conditions for Veramyst:
  • If you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medications, including herbal preparations or dietary supplements
  • An allergic or abnormal reaction to veramyst or any other nasal corticosteroid
  • If you have active or inactive tuberculosis or possibly a positive skin test indicating you have tuberculosis
  • Asthma
  • Liver problems
  • Had a recent ulcer in your nose, any form of nasal surgery or a nasal injury
  • If you have a condition requiring long term use of corticosteroids such as prednisone
  • Taking HIV Protease inhibitors
  • Glaucoma or cataracts
  • Any type of infection of the respiratory tract, untreated fungal or bacterial infections, parasitic or viral infections, herpes in or around the eye, measles or chickenpox or received any type of vaccination
  • Diarrhea
  • Pregnant or trying to become pregnant
  • Breastfeeding

If you are pregnant, breast feeding or currently trying to become pregnant, make sure your doctor is aware of your maternal condition; as Veramyst may not be recommended for certain situations.

Administering Veramyst

It is important that you leave regular intervals between every dose of medication. Doing so will help the efficiency of this drug. Every prescription comes with instructions on the reverse side of each bottle or packaging. It is important that you follow the written instructions carefully as not all of them are identical.

To take Veramyst you will need to blow your nose and the end of the spray nozzle toward the side of your nostril. Firmly squeeze the button while inhaling through your nose, then take the nozzle from your nostril and exhale through your mouth. You will need to repeat for the other nostril. After finished take a clean cloth and wipe down the nozzle and replace the cap. To benefit the most from Veramyst you will need to form a regular schedule and try to stick with it. Always shake the bottle before each use. Remember, when taking Veramyst or any prescription drug to always follow the label closely and do not take more than directed.

Veramyst should only be taken as instructed by a professional physician. Be sure to remember not to stop taking this medicine without consulting your physician first about how to stop safely. What if I Miss a Dose of Veramyst

In the event that a dose of Veramyst was missed, take one as soon as you can. But if your next scheduled dose is near, wait until that next dose is due and just skip the one you’ve already missed.

Caution: You should NEVER take double or extra doses of Veramyst. Always ask your physician further about missed doses, as he may have special instructions.

Conflicting Medications

Always consult the doctor who prescribed Veramyst to you; as this is only a partial interacting medicines list:
  • Certain types of HIV protease inhibitors
  • Delavirdine
  • Azole antifungals such as ketoconazole
It is important that your physician knows if you are currently taking any medications along with Veramyst; as there may be conflicting interaction. Let your physician know if you:
  • Are a smoker
  • Use any other legal or illegal drugs or substances
  • Consume alcohol or caffeine on a regular basis

Veramyst Common side effects

  • Itching
  • Rash
  • Vision changes
  • Swelling of the lips, mouth, face or tongue
  • Difficulty breathing or tightness in the chest
  • Severe or persistent nosebleed
  • Slow healing wounds
  • Hives
  • Severe or persistent pain the nose or throat
  • Fever

It is important that you contact your physician right away if you've experienced any of the Less Common side effects listed above.

Veramyst Precautions

You should receive physical checkups on a regular basis; especially while taking prescription medicines. This is an easy way to monitor your progress and ensure your physical health as well. Your body may build up a dependency on Veramyst and you may experience dizziness or drowsiness up to a few days after you stop taking this medication.

Patients are advised not to operate heavy machinery or automobiles until the full effect of Veramyst is known. Do not consume alcohol while taking Veramyst. Make sure your doctor is aware of upcoming surgeries you may have scheduled; or will be scheduling while taking this medication.

Contact your doctor for professional advice if you experience a cold, coughs or allergies. You should not try to treat yourself for such symptoms. How To Store Veramyst

The following is general storage information for Veramyst:

  • It is important that you store Veramyst at temperatures between 59 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Make sure Veramyst is kept away from direct sunlight and moisture.
  • Be sure to store Veramyst out of reach of any pets or small children; in a small childproof container.
  • Dispose of any expired or unused Veramyst properly.
