About A hydroCort

A hydroCort is known as a corticosteroid that is useful in helping to reduce swelling, redness, allergic reactions and itching. A hydroCort has also been used to treat severe allergies, skin problems, asthma, arthritis, eczema, psoriasis and many other conditions.



Your Prescribing Doctor Must Know

Tell your physician if you have experienced any of these conditions for A hydroCort:
  • Cushings syndrome
  • Psychosis
  • Seizures
  • Myasthenia gravis
  • High blood pressure
  • Infection, including chicken-pox, herpes, measles or tuberculosis
  • Underactive thyroid
  • Diabetes
  • Previous heart attack
  • Stomach or intestinal disease
  • Osteoporosis
  • Blood clotting disorder
  • Liver disease
  • An unusual or abnormal reaction to hydrocortisone, corticosteroids, other medicines, foods, dyes or preservatives
  • Pregnant or trying to get pregnant
  • Breastfeeding

If you are pregnant, breast feeding or currently trying to become pregnant, make sure your doctor is aware of your maternal condition; as A hydroCort may not be recommended for certain situations.

Administering A hydroCort

  • Are a smoker
  • Use any other legal or illegal drugs or substances
  • Consume alcohol or caffeine on a regular basis

A hydroCort Common side effects

  • Increased appetite or loss of appetite
  • Diarrhea or constipation
  • Increased sweating
  • Upset stomach
  • Headache
  • Unusual increased growth of hair on the body or face

A hydroCort Least Common side effects

The following side effects are rare and should not be taken lightly. If you experience any of these less common side effects from taking A hydroCort consult your healthcare professional immediately. The following are less common side effects associated with A hydroCort:

  • Increased thirst
  • Stomach pain
  • Fever, sore throat, sneezing, cough or other signs of infection
  • Wounds that will not heal
  • Menstrual problems
  • Weight gain or loss
  • Eye pain, decreased or blurred vision, or bulging eyes
  • Mental depression, mood swings, mistaken feelings of self-importance, mistaken feelings of being mistreated
  • Swelling of the lower legs or feet
  • Skin problems or acne
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Bloody or black tarry stools
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Frequent passing of urine
  • Rounding out of the face
  • Confusion, excitement, restlessness or a false sense of well being
  • Unusual bruising or red pinpoint spots on the skin
  • Hallucinations
  • Pain in hips, back, ribs, arms, shoulders or legs
  • Muscle cramps or weakness
  • Unusual weakness or fatigue

It is important that you contact your physician right away if you've experienced any of the Less Common side effects listed above.

A hydroCort Precautions

You should receive physical checkups on a regular basis; especially while taking prescription medicines. This is an easy way to monitor your progress and ensure your physical health as well. Your body may build up a dependency on A hydroCort and you may experience dizziness or drowsiness up to a few days after you stop taking this medication.

Patients are advised not to operate heavy machinery or automobiles until the full effect of A hydroCort is known. Do not consume alcohol while taking A hydroCort. Make sure your doctor is aware of upcoming surgeries you may have scheduled; or will be scheduling while taking this medication.

Contact your doctor for professional advice if you experience a cold, coughs or allergies. You should not try to treat yourself for such symptoms.   • Dispose of any expired or unused A hydroCort properly.
